Congratulations to Thanisha Spruill, she was the first DMDP’s 2023 National Poetry Contest for the month of April.

Daughters of the Sun


Daughters of the Sun, Child of Promise,

Decide today that you will set yourself free.

Release the chains that so easily beset you.

Release them from your mind, from your heart, from your soul.

Decide today that you are free.

Walk in your purpose unapologetically.

Release yourself from people, places, and things that keep you bound.

You have the power to release these chains.

Walk in your power. Walk in your greatness.

There is a path before you that only you can walk.

Daughter of the Sun, Child of Promise, decide today that you are free.

The road may seem scary. The journey is long, but you’ve traveled this road before, over many lifetimes.

It’s written in your DNA.

You’re made of good stock. It’s deep in your bones; this strength you have.

Gifted to you by all the beautiful ones that came before.

You are crowned with Glory from head to toe. Don’t be afraid. You already know the way.

Remember…

The journey is not unknown.

My Beloved Daughter of the Sun, Child of Promise.
